I think he tends to play characters who are very confident and that makes him seem taller. There is nothing wrong with this height as he is one of America's absolute greatest of all time. The evidence is too strong. I've mentioned before he could look shorter than 5'7" Anne Hathaway at times. And significantly shorter than Zac Efron. I think it's only a matter of time before he gets a slight downgrade. His posture is severely compromised these days at 74 years old. He for sure is not over a flat 5'7" today. Just compare that to how the two would have looked in their prime. I could believe 5'7. He can honestly pass for 5'6"-5'6. I've never said any less than 5'8. But in the same film, he looked the same heigth than legit 5'9 jack nicholson. So, i think that a weak 5'9 is more possible than a strong 5'8. Maybe he was 5'8. But in that same film there are wide shots of De Niro and Dana Andrews who is listed 5'10" here, yet Andrews in his late 60s had at least an inch on De Niro.

Besides, it's standard practice to ensure a leading man is taller than his leading lady and in this can be accomplished in a number of ways. If De Niro was at least 5'9" then why does he look shorter here in his early 40s than Tony Curtis in his early 60s?

He may have looked cm at times, likely due to lifts or his build, but that would mean he's lost a full 2 inches since he's not looking more than cm or so these days. Ray Liotta had a good 3" on him in Goodfellas and Rob lists Liotta at 5' He's lost quite a bit of height. He def looked 5'9 5'9. Personally, I think it's fairly doubtful he was even a full 5'9". An aged Tony Curtis looked taller than De Niro in the late 80s.
Sharon Stone admitted she was only 5'8. She was a bit shorter than Sly Stallone, but not a lot shorter and if you see her off screen with Michael Douglas, she was barely shorter than him, even though they gave him huge elevator boots for Basic Instinct that made him several inches taller.
I'd say cm peak and current are likely for De Niro. I think De Niro's height is the most disputed on this site. Yeah he might be slouching It's just that he is listed at 5'7 while my dad claims him to be really tall, when he barely looks taller than 5'7 or 5'8 de Niro. But my point was that though height contributes enormously to an actor's ability pulling off menacing parts with the greatest aplomb, it isn't always vital! Robert de Nero is such a brilliant actor that I used to think he was above average height - I'd say 5ft11 in his early days.
